Buddy Council

Buddy Council | Making kindness and role modelling a part of every play and lunchtime

Year 4, 5 and 6 pupils are being given the opportunity to shape playtimes. Pupils have met together alongside Family Support Advisor, Hayley James, and begun plotting their priorities for the year ahead.

Step 1

Observe the playground at break and lunchtimes to identify the need.

Step 2

Review the playground layout, and create a playground plan.

Step 3

Identify children from years 4, 5 and 6 via observation and classroom staff input. Meet with the children to discuss the idea of buddy council, and see if it is something they are interested in.

Step 4

Have the first buddy council meeting, discuss ideas and the 'rota' for playtime. Gather ideas on how the students want the buddy system to work and create a plan.

Step 5

Email the whole school and meet with the Meal Time Assistants to discuss the plan.

Step 6

Start implementing the changes at break and lunch, with ongoing steps.

Ongoing steps...

  • Meet with the buddy council every month; this will be to review progress, and create and update projects.
  • Observations of break and lunchtime to ensure plans are implemented smoothly.
